Separate nations rarely have helped each other through history. But there is one project between 5 space programs and more than 16 nations that everyone can be proud of. Now after more than 21 years, this collaboration is responsible for countless scientific breakthroughs that might have never happened without the agreement between all these nations.
On 20 November 1998, the Russian module Zarya was launched and became the first step towards the creation of the future space station. Shortly after this the American Unity was launched and connected successfully. Currently, the International Space Station has been visited 73 times by manned spacecraft and 68 times by unmanned ships.
After 21 years of work, it is now equipped with modules for the astronauts to live, work, and do sport to prevent muscle atrophy.
Scientists there spend a lot of time maintaining the station, conducting experiments but also find time to connect with family and other curious minds and have fun. Onboard the International Space Station the first music video clip shot out of Earth was uploaded.
Probably nothing might have happened if all these nations have not agreed to participate in this incredible project.
